My Story

Experience

As I stated earlier, I have been out the business for a while but have recently updated my skills and am now jumping back into it. Web development is certainly not new to me but a lot of things have changed since I last created full websites. In 1999 I took web development courses and ended up receiving a certificate in HTML. In 2000 I started working as a web developer for First Technology Solutions; a subsidiary of First National Bank of Omaha. At First Technology I worked in a team environment creating websites like Z-92, Kiss FM, Bergman Jeweler's, Big Bang electronics, as well as maintaining our company Intranet. I was also a half owner of Omaha Web Solutions which my uncle still owns and operates today. However, those were the days of static design and boiler maker pages so the site is a bit antiquated to say the least.

Things have changed a bit since then with the implementations of HTML5 and CSS3. Since 2016, I have been working with responsive design integration and have experimented with several responsive techniques and tools. I have worked with Bootstrap and love the convenience and ease of that framework. I am a very big fan of using media queries on my sites now. I strive to design layouts that can easily be optimized for aesthetic appeal on desktops, tablets cell phones or whatever other forms of website viewing out there. This site uses a responsive design, and I have completed responsive integration throughout most of the sites I have created.

History

My passion for the web started in 1998. The Internet was fairly new but very intriguing to me. I was working at the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo at the time doing computer graphics. I have always loved doing artistic things on the computer and the zoo allowed me to be very creative in that manner. However, my passion grew for the Internet as it became more popular. It was clear that the Internet was the way of the future and I was onboard.

In 2001, things were getting very hard for Internet companies as the dot-com bubble was quickly closing in. This made it very difficult for people like me to maintain a job in the industry. I was actually laid off twice from the same company in hopes that things would pick up again. Unfortunately, this led me to pursue other career avenues. While I learned a lot doing other things in the business world, I knew my heart was in web development! So there it is in a nutshell. If you read this far, thank you for your interest and I look forward to my new endeavors!
